Dewey Dickey
I can’t really remember much about it, maybe Scott,Dana or Dave can remember more. I remember Dana opened the hostilities about a mile to go if I remember. There were a few more in that move, maybe Mark Fries and Dalton. I remember Anderson started but for some reason I don’t think he made the break that day. I didn’t really win the ’sprint’ it was more like attack after attack. It just happened my attack with about 200 meters stuck. So really the sprint started with Dana’s move and then chase, attack, chase, attack, you know what I mean. I also remember the start. I went hard up the first climb on the first lap and everyone was on me like flies on shit. Truth was I felt really bad. I also think Oberpriller and Scott Hebel were off the front for awhile but didn’t make our move.

It was on the traditional ogn Valley course. I seem to remember the break going early in the race. Second lap maybe? It was windy as usual and I think we broke it apart in the side wind. Members of the break: Dewey, Flanders, Dana Hill, me, and four others, I think, but I’m drawing a blank on who they were. Dana Hill attacked a few miles before the last climb and probably got a 30 second gap. Up the hill, I pushed the pace and we got Dana towards the top of the climb. Up on top, the wind was blowing strong from the right. With about a 1/2 mile to go, Dewey put in a vicious attack and got a good gap. I started a long sprint down the centerline behind Dewey so that anybody coming from behind would have to pass me into the wind. Flanders, however, crossed the centerline on my left to pass me. Dewey finished with about a 20 yard lead followed by Flanders then me.
