The Throwdown: Hareland to Synergy. NVGP to Climb Ohio. Sprinters Road Race. Patty Cakes Needs A Home.

2007 State Criterium Champion Aric Hareland is making the jump to Team Synergy for the 2008 season. Hareland raced the 2007 season for Hollywood/Silver and enjoyed great success. Over the past two years Hareland has also made attempts at the 30+ competition at Superweek outside of Milwaukee. He won the competition in 2006 and finished a close second in 2007. In both of those events he relied heavily on teammates, this leads to the inevitable question, will anymore of his former Silver teammates follow him over?

The “re-branded” Synergy team, based out of Now Sports, is quickly making a name for itself. BikeThrow was the first to report that Tim Mulrooney was making the switch to the squad. Mulrooney, a 3 time ROY winner, also was a member of the Hollywood/Silver team. This means that Team Synergy now has 3 riders in the cat1/2s; Tim Mulrooney, Aric Hareland and Ben Popp.

It has also been rumored that two category 3 racers are thinking of joining the squad for the upcoming season.

A tip came in that the time trial in the Nature Valley Gran Prix will remain the same with the addition of the Ohio Street climb. This addition will change the pancake flat time-trial into an event that will have drastic effects on the outcome of the race. Ohio Street has long been a training climb for local clubs and is located just east of the High Bridge and rises from Harriet Island.

This is also the exact course that Grumpy’s/LGR was hoping to bring to the Minnesota racing scene, but complications to the closure of the Ohio Street climb forced the team to pursue another event. If the climb is added to the NVGP, one can expect a large amount of spectators for the traditionally quiet Friday morning time trial.

A new road race promoted by Loon State has been placed on the MCF calendar. The event, tentatively named The Sprinters Classic Road Race, is scheduled for July 12th and is located in the Marty area. It is rumored to be a flat course located next to the course currently used for the Gluek Road Race, also located in Marty. This race would couple with the Hamel Time Trial for a complete weekend just one week prior to the Tour of Granite Country, also promoted by Loon State.

Pat Lemiux is looking for a room to rent this summer in the Twin Cities, from about May 10th-August 20th. He would like it to be within 10km of Grand Performace. He can pay up to $450 a month and will do the dishes. If you want to hook Patty Cakes up with a place email him at: patrick.lemieux@mnsu.edu
