The Throwdown: Checking in with Noo-Noo and Boyce, Oxbow, Event X, TTOY and Track on Television

We heard from Sean Noonan and Jake Boyce last night. Both of them are in Arizona doing some training, but have run into a little roadblock in their quest to find their early season legs. The original plan had the two renting a condo/time share that Noonan found on Craigslist. After paying for the condo via PayPal, they have arrived in Arizona only to find that there isn’t a key or a gentleman to give them access to the timeshare.

Boyce was more than willing to talk about the situation, “Noonan is a little mad that he got conned by a guy on Craigslist, and now we need a place to stay. Can you put that on bikethrow?” The rest of the conversation centered on what team each rider is going to race for this upcoming season after their college careers come to an end. Both riders wanted it to be known that they will happily go to the team(s) that is willing to pay the most for their entry fees and give them free clothing.

If you are interested in either of their services, or know of a place for them to stay since they are without lodging in the Tuscon area send Boyce an email at jwboyce@gmail.com

As you may have heard the 2008 Oxbow race has been canceled due to the inability to find a promoter for the event. A last second attempt to revive the race by Mike Delaney and Loon State almost occurred, but in the end failed to materialize due to high policing costs. The former promoters of the event hope to bring it back in 2009.

The Grumpy’s/LGR team also announced the cancellation of Event X on the schedule. The team had hoped to bring a hill-climb time trial to the area. The first planned course was the old Lillydale Rd course with a finish on top of the famed Ohio St. climb. Sadly the event permit was denied by the city of St. Paul because of the nature of the climb. The team then investigated some criteriums and time trials around the area, but was unable to find a course that could produce a financially sound event.

That means 3 events have been “canceled” in 2008:

  • Oxbow Road Race
  • Bloomington Criterium
  • Event X

The Time Trialist Of the Year (TTOY) competition is looking for a 40k TT to take part of the competition since the original 40k TT falls on the same day as the upcoming NSC Velodrome Cup. If there are any 40k TTs in the area that would like to take part in TTOY please contact Dave Thimsen via the MCF message board.

Word has it that Miranda Gohn has gone through all the classes at the Minneapolis Television Network (MTN) and will be producing and filming television shows about track racing at the velodrome in Blaine. If you are interested in helping Miranda out with filming, lighting, or “acting” look her up on the MCF message board.

No word yet on when the programs will be airing, but I hope it is on sometime between Drinking With Ian and Totally Scrabble Tuesday.

If you have any tips, suggestions, or just want to see your name on bikethrow send us an email at bikethrow@gmail.com.

We are accepting submissions, previews, recaps for the upcoming season. We are also on the lookout for a writer who can focus on the Women’s racing scene.

Thanks,

Super Rookie
