regarding tt passing.. riders must always stay to the right and pass riders on the left.. if the rider to be passed is hogging the lane preventing the passing rider from making a safe pass the passing rider can draft off of the impeding rider until that rider moves to the right.. if an official were to witness this scenario the rider being passed would/should be penalized for not staying as far right as possible and impeding passing racers. it happens more in tris than in open tts

SuperRookie deserves a cookie for bringing up the whole warming up on the course issue and someone in the other thread said something about wanting more rule citations…

1O11. Non-Competitor on Course. A rider may not be on the track or course during a race for which he or she was not entered and registered, or from which he or she has withdrawn or been directed to withdraw [relegation or disqualification if entered in another race in the event for which the results are not yet final; 10 days suspension if flagrant].

My interpretation for TTs is that if you haven’t started yet, this rule applies to you once the first rider has started. Perhaps we should make this a point of emphasis in the near term. At road races, this includes warming up or cooling down, especially in the vicinity of the finsh line. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE or don’t complain if you get DQ’ed.

Timmer raises a good point. With respect to TTs, because we do most of them on narrow roads, I’ve always been more concerned with someone drafting another rider after being passed, rather than the faster rider drafting someone they are about to pass. Not much advantage in drafting someone slower than you. That said, if it’s flagrant and obviously deliberate, I’ll still penalize the faster rider for drafting if it’s at all prolonged.

    Who is running this ship?

Next thing I know there will be another 50 comments about nothing.

P.S. Skibby is cancelling OPUS. He said it is because not enough people listen to the podcasts on BikeThrow.

P.P.S. I think we need to publicly shame the individuals that are caught doing the things that ruin race venues. Peeing in public, warming up on the course etc…

P.P.P.S. I just got a video camera. Better not catch any of you screwing up (I of course will show pictures of me scewing up).

P.P.P.P.S. This goes for leaving trash at bicycle races, even pro criteriums in downtown Stillwater.

P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Charlie, I think our brooding friend Homme was employing a bit of sarcasm but if you believed it to be true why did you go against his directions? Comment away but if you use “duh” again you’ll be banned for life!

P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Rookie, How many energy drinks did you have this morning?

P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S. I’m all for public flogging of violators.

I am bored at work so I thought I would continue some of the conversation from the podcast:

14 women in the 1/2/3 race, 9 of which are from out of state. To bad most of the local women seem to be going to Iowa. It could have been the best GC timed stage race for women the region has seen in quite some time.

I bet 20-30 more riders register prior to the Monday evening deadline. Still a little low for a community that was so vocal about the loss of the Tour of 10k.

Who will win the 1/2s? Timmer and Stanford come to the top of the list instantly, but the lack of men lining up for the race is quite low considering the decent prize list. Why is this?

The cat3 field is the largest on the books. Must be because cat3s still have the serious racing bug and want a GC race. These types of races are rare in these parts so riders want the chance…no surprise that it is the intermediate riders flocking for the chance.

    Your thoughts?

How do you explain the small attendance from the 1/2s?

Is the Quad Cities that much better? I ask because I don’t know. It seems like Tour of 10k was beginning to make inroads into the numbers at the QC…is the 2 hour drive to Duluth that much of a detterent?

i don’t think so.. and they cancelled the road race so it’s 3 crits.. but it is bigger money, bigger field racing with new faces. and it has a huge tradition. we talked about it last night at lyles.. how it used to be.. it was epic racing but the courses have been compromised (except snake alley a weed park). marcotte is defending his race an his team is supporting him. flanders is warming up to hard racing for NVGP.. (it won’t surprise me if flanders makes up all of the composite team). plus it’s memorial weekend and some have wives and family obligations. you need a strong history to pull racers.. like 10K lakes built over 5-10 years. hopefully tour de tone will build as well

Judging by the womens fields and the lower divisions there are some “new faces” in Duluth. I agree with you that there is only hope that Tone can build the thing, I just wish more would go to it.

    Should still be fun.
