my thoughts? instant upgrade to cat 2 for top 5 on GC in cat 3.. it’s time for some of you to race with men.

Are you talking in general or should we name some names?

Judging by the womens fields and the lower divisions there are some "new faces" in Duluth. I agree with you that there is only hope that Tone can build the thing, I just wish more would go to it.

Should still be fun.

i don't think so.. and they cancelled the road race so it's 3 crits.. but it is bigger money, bigger field racing with new faces. and it has a huge tradition. we talked about it last night at lyles.. how it used to be.. it was epic racing but the courses have been compromised (except snake alley a weed park). marcotte is defending his race an his team is supporting him. flanders is warming up to hard racing for NVGP.. (it won't surprise me if flanders makes up all of the composite team). plus it's memorial weekend and some have wives and family obligations. you need a strong history to pull racers.. like 10K lakes built over 5-10 years. hopefully tour de tone will build as well

How do you explain the small attendance from the 1/2s?

Is the Quad Cities that much better? I ask because I don't know. It seems like Tour of 10k was beginning to make inroads into the numbers at the QC...is the 2 hour drive to Duluth that much of a detterent?

I am bored at work so I thought I would continue some of the conversation from the podcast:

14 women in the 1/2/3 race, 9 of which are from out of state. To bad most of the local women seem to be going to Iowa. It could have been the best GC timed stage race for women the region has seen in quite some time.

I bet 20-30 more riders register prior to the Monday evening deadline. Still a little low for a community that was so vocal about the loss of the Tour of 10k.

Who will win the 1/2s? Timmer and Stanford come to the top of the list instantly, but the lack of men lining up for the race is quite low considering the decent prize list. Why is this?

The cat3 field is the largest on the books. Must be because cat3s still have the serious racing bug and want a GC race. These types of races are rare in these parts so riders want the chance...no surprise that it is the intermediate riders flocking for the chance.
