Men’s Pro 1/2/3 Champion Ian Stanford at the Cloquet Criterium.

The 2008 Duluth Classic Stage Race has laid the groundwork for bigger and better things for future years.  Promoter Tone Coughlin pulled off a big win despite lighter than expected rider turnout, course changes, and the fickle Duluth weather.

While many of Minnesota’s cyclists took the weekend off or participated in events elsewhere, those that made the trip squared off against teams from Canada, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois and enjoyed great racing at some great venues.  The Minnesota contingent represented well by Granstay, Synergy, Loon State Cyclists, Grumpy’s/LGR, Birchwood/GIS, Silver Cycling, MNJRC, MCT, SPBRC, AUC, and Velo Bella in both the GC and stage victories.
