Fans witnessed more exciting wheel to wheel action at day two of The Fixed Gear Classic.  Riders from the finish of the MS150 Bicycle Charity ride helped fill the stands at the National Sports Center Velodrome in Blaine where spectators watched the second day of racing and the conclusion of the omnium event.

While World Champion Italian Sprinter Roberto Chiappa and Ben Barczewski of Allentown, PA continued to display impressive bursts of speed in the sprint events, Emil Abraham’s steady performances and victory in the Miss and Out event helped him secure the men’s overall Omnium.

The women’s omnium was a tight contest between Coleen Hayduk, Carrie Higgins and Jennifer Triplett.  Higgins’ chances were dealt a blow when she crashed in the Miss and Out and Hayduk took the win.  Hayduk’s Miss and Out win pushed her into first place overall and she hung on to be the eventual women’s overall Omnium champion.

For local riders, the day was highlighted by Melissa Dahlman’s 3rd place in the women’s Handicap event and the Team Sprint victory by Taylor Olson, Ted Schmid, and James Tainter.  The trio set a new track record in the 750m standing start event by clocking a time of 49.774 seconds.

I’ve been to several races with Emile as a teamate. This kid is backwards so no surprise on the rear disk logo. Super guy though, just a bit backwards is all…If you see him at NVGP be sure to ask about ‘El Grande’ from Tour de Beuce. He isn’t ashamed and will certainly entertain with a fantastic story!
