Olson King of the Match Sprints

The 2008 Minnesota Match Sprint Championships were contested last night at the NSC Velodrome in Blaine, MN. Taylor Olson of Speedfix Racing was the number one qualifyer in the Cat 1/2/3 field and had far more horsepower than anyone, easily moving throught the first round of three-ups and then dispatching teammate Ted Schmid in the semis. Olson met 2006 Match Sprint National Champion James Tainter of Silver Cycling in the finale. Olson took the first match-up with relative ease but was challenged in the second heat when Tainter jumped with nearly two laps to go. Olson closed the gap and used the slipstream to move past Tainter in the final turn to take home top honors and was crowned the 2008 Match Sprint Championship.

Lindsey Hamilton of Grumpy’s / LGR defeated Gwen Steel of Speedfix Racing in heads-up action to take home the women’s Match Sprint Championship.

Mike Hall of Lake Superior Cycling Club defeated Chris Verbick in the finals of the men’s category 4/5 division to take home first place honors. Tim Peggors defeated Hamilton to take the bronze in the cat 4/5 division.

Cat 3 medals were awarded to Andy Frye of LSC (gold), Steve Redelsperger of SPBRC/BP (silver), and Gabe Masulius of Gopher Wheelmen (bronze).
