Selander Rips Up Field at Hudson CX

Bjorn

Bjorn Selander lead things wire to wire on his way to an impressive victory in Hudson, Wisconsin on Sunday. Linda Sone helped complete the double earlier by taking the win in the women’s open field.

With early morning showers rolling through, the usually technical course for the Hudson CX took on added difficulty. The course was layed out in similar fashion as last year with a few enhancements. After the beginning grassy section the course wound around the registration building with a much better route before plunging down a steep incline into a short grassy straight-away. With a few switch-backs the field then dropped into the technical single track in the woods before sinking into the muddy marsh of the St. Croix.

The course wound back into the woods and then reached to the far point of the course before sliding back for a trip along the river with mud flying and then back into the woods. From there it was 75 meters of slogging through the sand that ended with a step-up before again reaching the grassy area that included the lone set of true barriers, the other being a fallen tree in the woods.

Selander built a sizeable lead early over teammate David Hackworthy who had a large margin of his own over Adam Bergman of Texas Roadhouse and Pat Lemieux of SPBRC/GP. Selander’s place on the top step of the podium was secure and with frequent bike exchanges to switch to a clean machine, his chances of any mechanicals were greatly reduced. Teammate Hackworthy was not so lucky and with five laps to go Hackworthy rolled his front tubular and lost significant time. Bergman surged away from Lemieux and left him to battle for third.

In the B Race, Paul McKinney of Gopher Wheelmen was victorious over Jake Helmbrecht of Grumpy’s/LGR. Barry Tungseth of FCCC rounded out the podium.
